Crop Sowing Of Cotton Falls Behind Previous Year

Delayed rainfall is likely to impact the yield of Cotton this season. Slow progress of Monsoon deferred the sowing of Cotton in most of the major belts that will impact the yield in India.

The latest sowing data from Ministry of Agriculture upto 13 July 2012 saw Cotton acreage declining to 65.2 lakh hectares compared to 70.4 lakh hectares at the similar period previous year.

Already significant area of Cotton has got shifted in other crops because of export ban and deferred revocation earlier in 2012. Total area is expected to fall behind in coming days due to poor monsoon.

The latest release from Indian Meteorological Department showed that during the week ending on 11 July, 2011, rainfall for the country as a whole was 1% above long period average (LPA) with above normal rainfall over northwest and central India.

NCDEX Kapas benchmark futures were holding to some very attractive levels on Monday. The prices were up by 1.6% or Rs 18 to Rs 1113 per 20 kg. [ News Via ]
