India's paddy, oilseeds at risk

Paddy and oilseed crops in Major growing areas in North and central India is at risk of dry spells incoming weeks on strong possibilities of emergence of El Nino phenomenon.

The sowing of major kharif crops, including paddy and oilseeds, in India took pace in recent days after the spurt in rains last week.

While, according to different global weather patterns from Japan Meteorological Agency, US Climate Prediction Center and Australian Bureau of Meteorology has predicted strong possibilities of emergence of El Nino weather pattern in the 3rd quarter of the 2012, especially in coming weeks.

El Nino is a shift in ocean temperatures and atmospheric conditions in the tropical Pacific that disrupts weather around the world.
